Heat Shrink Breakout Boot

Overview

In multi-core cable terminations, the point where the individual cores fan out from the common cable jacket is a critical sealing challenge. Without a purpose-made breakout, moisture can track along the interstitial spaces between the cores into the body of the termination — causing insulation breakdown, partial discharge and eventual failure. A heat shrink breakout boot is a moulded rubber or polyolefin component with one large central opening (the cable entry) and multiple smaller legs (one per core). When positioned over the fan-out point and heated, it shrinks to seal both the cable jacket and each core simultaneously. VIKCHEM supplies breakout boots as standard components of MV and LV termination kits and also separately for field repair and retrofit.
